Looking at a Focus ST it says it was CAT D stolen recovered it's very cheap an has 14,000 miles.

Am I right in thinking there isn't anyway to get a car off HPI?

There's no way to remove it from the register...it will always be recorded as a Cat D.

What would you say a 2006 '06' Focus ST-2 would be worth, has extras like Xenon's, Sony CD, Recaro's, in red has 14,000 miles FFSH, mot feb 2010, tax feb 2010. Only prob CAT D 09-06-2009 Stolen recovered.

How much do you think it would be worth it considering mileage serv history etc. Been looking at a few a 2005 CAT D with 22,000 miles went for £9200 this was also panel damage not just stolen.

Any ideas?

When I was buying damaged cars and fixing them for my own use, it seemed to work out at about 1/2 the parkers guide trade value to buy the car and the bits to finish it. A stolen/ recovered will prob need locks etc, which might be expensive considering that model is prob the most desirable and hence most stolen, so scrapyard locks will often be damaged and rare.

You 'aint going to make a fortune, but it is a way to get cheap quality motoring

Cat D isn't the end of the world provided it's priced accordingly. Bear this in mind as you'll want to sell it on one day so your purchase price now will have to equate the loss you take later.
    Otherwise, why not? 8-)

As a general rule, look up the price in Glass's Guide or Parkers and half it. That is the accepted way to value a total loss vehicle. Remember when you come to dispose of the car many garages won't take it as a PX, and if they do they will offer 50% of book, you win at one end but won't at the other. Also does the report state any other damage ? Remember cars which are stolen are not driven carefully, it is likely to have had a hard time while in the hands of the thieves. Modern cars with coded keys are almost impossible to steal without the keys, so if there is any lock damage ask yourself why, they must have had the keys.

Am going to pass on that anyway mate, don't really want something thats been a loss and as you say win at one end lose at another.
