Well I bought my first diesel car (2.5td saloon) last thursday and guess what I managed to put unleaded in it tonight!! Haven't even had the car a week. Can't believe how stupid I was, didn't even notice I had done it my mind was in another place. Drove about 10miles along the road and the car cut out, couldn't figure out what it was that had happened until I got this vivid picture in my mind of filling the car with the green fuel nozzel. Needless to say i'm going to have fun tomorrow draining it all and replacing filters and oils. Hopefully I haven't caused any major damage.

I did that once with a Nissan ... Not funny it is. Anyway, I hope you get it sorted out without much difficulties mate

managed to fill a bike with diesel once before the bigger nozzle days, or was it the smaller filler hole days?

 Brimmed it paid and rode off. Like a Twonk. Smoke splutter stop.

In my defence i was nearly killed by a BMW driver on the entrance to the garage, AND someone had swapped the pumps round, black handel in a green slot, never twigged as i was giving the driver a verbal driving lesson at the time. Some days things just conspire against you, esp if tired as well.

Well got it sorted tonight. Drained the tank, emptied the lines filled with 30l of fresh diesel even though I tried to put petrol in again to start with  then added two tins of wynns, a fuel system cleaner and an injector cleaner. towed it in gear for a mile or so to force out the petrol and boom it came to life and has been running fine all night

You wont do that again in a hurry and if you do you wont post it on here Good news its all sorted though Is diesel in a petrol, worse than petrol in a diesel, if you get what I mean :-?

As far as I understand yes, because with a diesel it will seize the fuel pump first as it won't have the lubricant from the diesel fuel, meaning it can't get enough through to properly damage the rest of the system. Also from what I have heard the diesel being in a petrol with cause more expensive damage within the engine not sure on how or why though.

Diesel buggers up the oxygen sensors in turn messing up the cat as well as clogging up filters, injectors and so on.

I used to belong to a Ford Transit forum and they have a topic about using a small amount of petrol to clean injectors on DI engines - apparently it seems to work, although not sure if it's recommended on diesel cars engines as they are much more complicated beasts than old van engines!
