The 1.4's I've heard are strong little engines too?
HG aside, they are all fairly robust engines.

Dropped lines aren't unheard of, but the (3rd party) repair co thinks this is usually caused by poor workmanship after HG change.

don't like them myself, mind you i don't like any small cars.
I'm with you on small cars, and for lanky people, passenger seat height not adjustable.

However, I've done reasonably journeys in it (100m +) with no aches and pains like Astras, Corsas, Focus and similar
I did Northwich to Lochmaddy and back in mine, approx 1000 miles. I couldn't stand straight for about a week ;D
LOL, not done a 1000m trip in ours, only done those sorts in Omega...

Had a 214SLi as a company motor years ago. It was the older Honda Concerto shape, but the last of the old shape (M Reg) with the 'chrome' grill and in a very nice met burgundy colour.

That was a great little motor, the 1.4 K Series engine was so smooth, bit gutless at motorway speeds (lack of torque) but pretty rapid for such a small engine. I had it just over 2 years and did 155,000 miles in it. In that time it had the usual HG done and an alternator, other than that, wear and tear parts.

I always thought that, when it was clean, it was a really good looking, classy little motor. Much better than the Astrcorts of the day.

Mate of mine has one properly sorted in a Caterham. Scholar replacement liners which also take it out to 1900cc. Delivers 240 BHP@9,000 RPM and it sees that every time he drives it (almost every time he changes up, TBH.) it gets plenty of track use, does a lot of touring miles, etc, but does get well maintained.

IIRC, that engine's been built for at least 6 years in that spec and is still bombproof.

Rover were very close to having a decent design before the beancounters decided it was good enough (familiar story!).

Oh, and it's not just him either. His wife was educated on the need to change upwhen the shift lights come on, etc.

One day, she asked him matter-of-factly:

"What should I do when the shift lights come on but there are no more gears?"  :o
