Fuel Light
« on: 23 September 2009, 18:04:20 »

Is there a set limit on litres of gallons when the fuel light comes on?

Fuel light came on a few miles from the petrol station, when i filled up i could only fit 59 litres in. The tank is 75 litres, so that suggests 16L of fuel left which is about 3.5 gallons. Did 445 miles till the light came on, so that means i had a potential 120 miles left in the tank which would give me a max range of 565 miles?

My fuel gauge and fuel light vary dependant on which side is half on the curb ;D ;D If I get home and the fuel light is on I stick the NS on the curb and I don't get the fuel light for another couple of days ;D

The low fuel light came on the other week end on our way back from deepest Dorset ... complete with caravan .... not sure now if it had started to flash  :-/ & I got 71.5 litres in  ::)  ::)  ::)  ::) I think we had something like 12/13 miles left on 'Range' of the display. We were oly a few miles from home, but thought it best to fill up.  ;)  ;)  ;)

Just had mine come on on the way home today, says there 87 mls range left.........it's a diesel and chipped so it throws the range/mpg figures out a little on the ECU.

The question is not how much fuel have I got in when the light comes on but, does my tank gauge show the correct amount of fuel.
My tank needle lies by about 10 Liters,
I belive if they are correct you should have enough fuel to do about 30 miles.

Fuel light usually turns itself on at around 7 litres in bigger sized car.
I think it should be written somewhere on the manual.
At least I know it was written on previous cars manuals.
But it can be very easily wrong.
My uncle once was returning from the business trip and his audi went dead in the midlle of the highway.
No fuel but the fuel gauge said one quarter ;D
And it was a new one installed in official audi dealer cause the old one was dead

the omegas fuel light is annoying to say the least! it annoyed me soo much i removed the bulb! if you nail it with a quater of a tank the light will come on and the guage will start lieing that there be no fuel in the car!

the MID is also hit & miss i got 40 miles before the old MV6 ran out whilst the MID said 0 Miles

Does anyone know what the manual says that should be left when the light comes on as ive not got one with my 1999 T reg 2.5 v6 model and is it like the T reg Vectra diesel i used to have where i think the light cane on for so long then started to flash or the other way around as I cant remember it was a couple of years ago.
ps can find the facelift manual as PDF in lots of places but including here but no sign of the prefacelift if anyone has any ideas.

fuel light on pre facelift comes on with approx 5 litres fuel in tank fuel light flashes when fuel drops to 2 litres according to the manual. However the brain of the unit bases its thoughts on how the car has been driven over the previous 50 miles,so if you are light footed you would go further.
Has anyone noticed that when you fill up your tank if you watch the range left if you are on a steady cruise it will go up if it states you have 186 miles left and you go 50 miles on cruise control you could have 213 mile range left however if you floor it and use the power it drops sharply

I'm pretty sure the low fuel light is part of the intial check when you first turn the ignition on ... it is on the Astra  :y
