IM IN TROUBLE WITH THE MRS
« on: 18 October 2009, 18:13:11 »

I have recently bought an omega 3.0 elite(2000), its a really good car and has been very well looked after and i do enjoy driving it even though it is an auto lol, its not to bad on a run either it can get as much as high 30's, but i can not get to grips with it for some reason, i dont know if its because its an auto or what, i have been thinking over the past few days what to replace it with, another vectra v6 or a mk2 cavalier, i would really really really like a cavalier calibre again but they are like rocking horse poo in good nick, i would probably even have a mk2 cavalier sri 130 if i could find a good one,
choices choices lol :-/,

Doesn't need to be stiff to corner well.

It is proper wheel drive so doesn't need to be ultimate stiffness to get the grip down.

And try an MV6 to see if you would like the suspension

The Omega is never going to feel as tight as a Vectra. (awaits the flaming) the Omega and the Vectra are aimed at a different target audience.

Although the Vectra is sportyier, it suffers from being front wheel drive. All the weight and power from a v6 is too much for the front wheels of a vectra to take, this is obviously multiplied when cornering. The Omega is RWD and believe me it makes all the difference.

I've owned 2 Vectra's (still got one) now (2.5 sri & 2.6 gsi) however I still think about the 40-50 miles I did in a v6 manual omega. I really enjoyed it. I could only imagine what fun you could have in a mildly tuned 3.2 with nice sports suspension.

This is one of the main reason I come back to this forum, because deep down I suspect I will be owning another Omega soon ;)

This is only my opinion and some will disagree with me.

So back to the original point, (sorry for the diversion) I would say, drive some different Omega's before you completely dismiss them.

Can you identify what you don't like? Even how it compares to a different car.

With all due respect, 'dangle berries'!

Even Vx themselves say the best you can get is 34mpg, and you ain't gonna see that in the real world unless you can simulate the test conditions.

Say what you mean, KW  ;D

You say that - I've had a genuine 40mpg from a 2.5 on a long (grandad) run....
