What would you have done?
Ebay seller e-caraccessories of Nottingham advertised a Liner Mat at £16.99 with a postage of £6.46, item no 280394561167.
I asked them " As I live in Nottingham can I pick one up to save on the postage?"
They replied " Sorry we only do postage"
I replied "Sorry NO SALE"

And me, if I am selling I am quite happy for people to collect, even on 99p items. I post at, about cost, so makes little difference. :)

He probably doesn't hold the stock himself. I have a friend who runs an eGay shop but doesn't keep anything at home, he sells an item and orders it from his wholesaler and they deliver directly to his customer for him. Complicated way of doing it but it keeps his house looking less like a warehouse.

Awkward one -- we sell cosmetics from home on eBay and from our own website and discourage collections, purely because we don't want all and sundry coming to the door at all hours. However, if it's local we do deliver free of charge as a compromise.

You must remember though -- from the sellers point of view, he has no protection at all on items that are collected. In theory you could collect the item, take it home and a few days later claim non receipt and get your money back from paypal. The only proof of delivery Paypal recognise is Royal Mails (or other trackable service provider's) proof of delivery ( and even then, not always!)

That's absolutely right - I sell a lot on eBay, and generally do allow collection, however I tend to make a decision on an item by item basis. I would have allowed collection on an item like that, so if I was buying I'd walk away from that one too  :y

Depends on how much you wanted the item in my opinion....
I saw a new exhaust on fleabay, which apparently was in Crewe which is just up the road really. I asked if I could collect they said they didn't do collection only postage.
Turned out that they dont really have the items there.
So I paid for the item, it was here within a few days, just waiting to be fitted now  :)

As others have said, its not worth cutting your nose off to spite your face, if you want the item and its cheap pay for it to be delivered, if there are others as cheap with delivery go for one of those.

Thanks for your views. The botttom line is that I would pay the asking price, but I'll be buggered if I'll pay over the odds for something that I could collect.
Guess what? Another company!!! BUYCARCARE!! in Nottingham on Evilbay has exactly the same product, same picture, same price, and same postage!!!
I think I will give them a wide berth!

I do a lot of ebay and sometimes sell for friends-then email them to get it posted.  Other friends ebay from home and post from wherever they store the kit.  others would rather not have people they do not know turning up at their house-especially if they are at work and wife is at home with baby.
Not sinister-just practical!

Another consideration is many sellers offer products very slightly cheaper than the competition and make it up with the postage cost.  But this means that a faulty product only gets the price not postage refunded-clever!

As has been said above, ignore how the price is made up-if they have good feedback and are cheapest, buy it!

It's only a few quid!!  :y  Not life or death  ;D

My biggest dislike of ebay buyers is whinging about postage-they never take into account the cost of proper packaging, the time taken to package, the special trip to PO within 40 seconds of checkout, etc... I got 2/5 stars for sending a large parcel which arrived next day, in professional packaging by first class recorded for £3.  Bloody typical ebay buyers!!!!

Don't get me started on the new Ebay rules or the fees and Paypal fees....  :-X
