Hi all,

I replaced the standard steel 13" wheels on the g/f's KA with 14" alloys from a Fiesta, 2 new Hankook tyres fitted to front alloys, properly balanced, rear tyres are good. Fitted with new alloy wheel nuts, fit perfect, no rubbing or anything. However , took it for a drive, fine around local roads, down motorway to g/f's house, hit 50 and it starts to shake violently, faster you go worse it gets, and I mean bad.

Took wheels to another garage to get front wheels re-balanced, all done correct, guy showed me on his digi read-out, could'nt find any faults and no problems with balancing. Re-fitted and took for a drive but still got the same problem. Now back on old 13" steels with no probs, so are the alloys duff in some way? They look perfect and theres no sign of damage/warping, i'm a bit lost with this? Anyone have any ideas?

Just because the wheel fits over the studs, it doesn't mean it is going to work.

Diameter won't make much odds, width could come in to play, but offset is also something you need to check if the rims are running true.

Must check the hub fitment as its the wheel fit on the hub that centers the wheel not the wheel nuts/bolts and are you using the wheel nuts with the collar
must be used on alloy ford wheels

If the wheel is not fitting the hub correctly then pop into a wheel shop for some fitment collars  HTH
