central locking problems on Skoda Octavia
« on: 16 November 2009, 08:59:44 »

My father has a bit of a problem on his Octavia.
When he unlocks the drivers door the central locking doesn't work, and only that door unlocks.
If he unlocks the boot or the passenger doors, central locking works and all doors unlock.
Anyone got an idea what can be the problem?

think thats quite normal, i found that on US hire cars. Its a security measure to stop people jumping in the passenger seat when you use the remote.

Press unlock twice, and it should do all doors  :y

Take it its suddenly stated doing this? i remember old fords did the same thing, needing it doing twice (even with the key) to unlock all doors.

Could be the motor has failed in that door and the lock is being turned manually each time? I would take the door cards off on both drivers and passenger side, swap the motors over and see if the problem moves to the other side.

My idea was the same (motor went dead) but wanted to get some advice before taking the door cards off.
Well taking them off will surely be an interesting experience, if my father lets me to do it ;D

I wonder if VAG used the same locking modules in the Skoda as they did in the Golf?

This sounds like the infamous dry solder joint problem that afflicted my wifes golf.

It took me an afternoon to fix  :) and cost me £0.00  :y by following these instructions http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1542461

Good Luck

Thanks for the link Andy.
I think I'll skip this repair for some time since it looks like a lot of hassle for a small gain.
Central locking still works on the passenger side and on the boot.

What year is the Octavia?

My wifes golf is 1999. We bought it not realising there was a problem. I ended up fixing both front door lock motors and replacing snapped wires next to the tailgate hinges that go to the boot lock motor and heated rear screeen. Once I had sorted the door locks all the courtesy lights started working (I hadn't even realised they were there).
