camping with an Omega Sedan
« on: 21 November 2009, 19:48:22 »

HI,

I recently purchased a X reg cdx sedan to replace my volvo v40. We'll use the car for camping and I need advice on roof rails, roof boxes and bike racks that work with the sedan.

Any advice from fellow campers would be great!

Thanks. ;D

Me and her had a few cracking holidays using a Carlton GSi, including a couple on the continent.

Large boot, large back seat area and put a roof box on to carry the tent, camping gas etc etc.  No great probs, provided you take the time to pack correctly, as neither of us like to do a lightweight backpacking job, preferring a full size tent with comfy lounging chairs and a table to eat meals from....   ;)

I've got one just didn't fancy towing a tin box up the A74(M), I've pulled a 44 ton 45 footer up there enough to know what it does to lighter trailers ;D ;D

The man wants to go camping, not sell burgers on the truck stops of the A43  ;D

I shall need to look at roof boxes soon, what with LPG tank in the boot. They can be mega expensive, think i will keep an eye out for second hand ones!

I wasn't on about a pikey palace, I've got a tin trailer (Halfrauds Erdé type) we normally use for camping ;)

Or GRP

Or aluminium sandwiched with GRP and aluminium extrusions in a brand new design.

and you then need somewhere to keep it, where you're not falling over the bl00dy thing.
Boot space or lack of it, is a main dis-advantage for me for LPG  :-/

Why would i need to fit in one when driving?  ;)  :P

I actually only use the full capacity of the boot once or twice a year, when camping (3 of us) the boot was rammed, rear passenger seat which was spare would be piled high in tesco supplies.

My main concern is how to fit my snowboard in, a roof box will be the only way, as long as i find a big enough one. I usually like to squeeze in a snowboarding road trip trip to Landgraaf in the summer  8-)
