matching panel colours....
« on: 28 November 2009, 21:23:08 »

my rear doors are a bit of a state comparatively speaking. Some small dings and rust spots bubbling up under the paint.

Question is, if a pair of rear doors are taken from another car with the same paint code, (they call it oyster, i think the parts man said, a cross between silver and gold metalic), is there any chance of the doors matching the rest of the car once swapped? Or will it look a dogs dinner. I'll bet on the latter. :-)

You might end up lucky but, top be honest, probably not...

there are numerous shades of a colour, even from new, with altenates available from suppliers.

it would take a good experienced eye and a wad of paint comparison chips to say which specific shade was what, IME....

I have swapped panels before & found to have good results, but i guess i was fortunate. As H21 says, it is a mine field. Try the panel, you never know :)

would not mind replacement passenger doors on mine, they have a few dings, but given the value of the car now, unless i get lucky on here with a local cheap breaker i won't bother.

Trouble is now, with the age of the Omegas, some will have sat in sun all their life, others in garages, so colours will vary  :-/

As Tunnie says I guess. It depends on how the paint has weathered. But then again you may get lucky. Is there no way of placing the door you want against your back panel? Also if you do get a good match, I don't know whether claying the whole car might help with matching?

thanks for replys gents, as thought really. Not worth the agro. Even if i do get it sorted one way or another, some bugger will either key it, drive into it or open a door on it.....or i'll stack it, perish the thought.

Really annoying to look at it though, there's a ding that catches your eye, then the more you look the more other smaller dings start to appear. Thanks to previous owner :-(

Would def. like to know how to spray and remove the odd ding. Basic body shop stuff in general. I've got some basic spray gear but it seems to take a bit of setting up. Add in my lack of experience, results aren't great.
