Running temp and heating power
« on: 09 December 2009, 09:35:01 »

What temp should my 2.2 run at and should the heating be as "gentle"?

Car now runs well with decent economy but setting the heating at 22 gives you reasonable warmth out of vents but cabin is fairly cool-on my 20 mile commute it is just warm enough-any noticeable cabin warmth comes in at Hi or 28...

Temp gauge measure is first increment, second increment, 80: I usually run on just below the second increment with my gentle driving in December temps-is this normal?

Car has had a lot of work-see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1259852804/new

So in essence-car runs well, cabin gets hot enough (slowly!) at 28 or Hi, gauge seems to read low, drives very well, economy ok.

I wonder if it is me being used to tiny cars with tiny engines that heat up in 2 miles, run dead on halfway up the temp gauge and have a small cabin airspace to heat with only a few small powerful (blisteringly hot) vents?
Is my Omega therefore just doing what it should?

Ideas?  :y

I will give you my experience just so you can compare.

Normal running temperature is about 83. The cabin only starts to get noticeably warm when set to 26 and above.

My 2.2 runs at around 85. As for the cabin temp, well you'll find around this time of year pump it up to Hi, for quick warm up. Then lower it to around 24-26 is usually ok for me when nice and cosy. It does take around 3-4 miles to get warmed up though, having aircon on helps get it warm quicker.

as said it should be 85, mine has never gone hotter than 90 even sat in traffic.

Can dip to 80 after just getting off the motorway after a long blast, but should quickly go back to 85  :y
