This is my 1999 2.5v6 CDX Auto Estate, bought for peanuts two weeks ago.
OK, I have done wishbones and drop links already so today did a little more, although I wish I hadn't as I am paying for it with the old back tonight!
Faults known before starting. Secondary air injection one way valve blown, so exhaust gasses and noise were transmitted through air injection pump, and thus the pump was very noisy. So, removed pump and air injection pipework, replaced with donor parts from the MV6. Job done and 100% fixed.
During this job I removed the intake ducting and was horrified as to how filthy the inlet to the butterflies is. I mean FILTHY! Brown residue and cack. Ties in with the original seals on the plenum breather pipes. Closer inspection revealed the small crankcase vent housing tubing was broken away and thus not connected at all. The small vent hole completely blocked.
Also, the EGR valve is sooty and thus leaking. Luckily I have a brand new spare again donated by the MV6, so next job when I take the plenum off.
Furthermore, the oil filler cap is caked in thick dry shiny oil deposits, whcih is a sure sign of total lack of maintenance. I know there is an additive you can get that breaks this all down, but for the life of me cannot remember what it is called. Anyone?
So, jobs to do still: Full breather and plenum decoke. Full engine flush and service, Replace EGR valve, New cambelt, tensioner and water pump. Replace dented tailgate, refix side protection strip to OSR door.
Not bad really. this car will be one of the best I have seen when finished next weekend hopefully.
Then it is on to my new and final, final Omega. details in another posting.
