Hey all,

This isnt a help request, otherwise i would put it in the appropriate section.

Im just interested in knowing how cheeeeply I could convert a 2.5 V6 to LPG. Obviously it's got to be safe, Im not asking for anything dodgy. But its really just a case of getting more than the 35mpg-at-best from the V6, otherwise the wages/bank account just can't support the 167bhp lump.

So anyone got any ideas? Got an old crash-damaged Omega with gas-power fitted?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Several guys have done their own LPG conversions .. it works out around £700 plus 3 days work I think ..

You've got a problem with 'ONLY' 35mpg!!!!   that's nearly 2 gallons for my 210bhp car!!!

You have to remember that in MPG terms you'll actually get less on LPG... A better comparison is pence per mile, which is where you should see an average saving of around 10p

I think the kits still come in at around £700 with a 4-hole cylinder tank

true, I know its actually pretty excellent mpg from a 2.5v6, but, well finances are pretty terrible, at present, so im looking for ways to save money, and keep the v6.

I may try auctioning off organs, to raise capital.

See your point, never thought about it in that way, but yes. Pence/mile the figure to look at.

See your point, never thought about it in that way, but yes. Pence/mile the figure to look at.

Personally I wouldn't bother as you'd still need several new parts and software and instruction/wiring diagrams... IMHO, for the sake of about £300 or so (although you'd be able to strip the donor for parts to raise some more money) it's not worth the hassle... A new kit, with a new tank and 2 Yr Warranty make a new kit more sensible

Estimated petrol costs of the past 18 months/19000 miles would be 23.18 pence /mile

Actual LPG cost over the same period is 14.17 pence /mile. A saving of 9.01 pence /mile or 39%

The most expensive petrol in that time = 110.9 p/litre.. cheapest 91.9 Average 109.9

LPG most expensive 64.9     cheapest 45.9   Average 55.93 p/ltr

Just been doing some calc's of my own (such as they are, my maths was never great!) but was pleased to reach the same saving figure as you (well, 40%, not 39%, but im very pleased enough with that!) so many thanks for that, up to now.

Its just a case now of working out just how long it's going to take to recoup the lpg cost, and if i'll have already had to file for bankruptcy before then!

You can save on the back-end kit. I just picked up a 100 litre 4 hole tank, including cradle, straps, airtight box, solenoid, etc, for £99 on ebay.......

Bit of hose and a filler,  and that's the back end  done.

You then need to get a front end, estimate £400 new - or  again, if you're confident, you could get one off a breaker (if you can see it working and remove it yourself, to be sure it's all there / ok).

thats the sort of thing, yeah. I just saw a 2.5 engine go through on ebay the other day, with lpg. still fitted in the car, so could be seen running, etc. Went for 250 quids.
