I think they are using the most expensive petrol price in the country and the cheapest LPG price ;) ;) And possibly an out of date price list for the quote :-/

BRC is a good kit but be sure that the company has done a conversion on a V6 Omega before letting them loose on your car... I've seen several "Professional" installations I would have been embarrassed to show to a blind man ::) ::)

In reality, work on a saving of about 9p per mile, and allow for some additional maintenance just in case :y :y LPG will find any weaknesses in the ignition system long before they would show on petrol :y :y

I'm assuming that the price quoted is for a 80L cylinder tank across the boot

[edit]Just re read the OP... Torroidal tank! Need to confirm that it's a vertical one ;) ;)[/edit]

Why are you going for the torodial tank in a saloon ??

I have an 80 litre (64 ltr gas as you can only fill to 80%) in the boot.. anything smaller and you'll constantly be looking for LPG stations ... IMHO ..

I don't know what data you inputted to get the petrol/lpg "spend" figures .. but I reckon to save just under 10p /mile by running on LPG, so my conversion (£2173.68p ....  two years ago) will take 24000 miles to "pay for itself"

You have to decide how long you will keep the car, how many miles you do in it, and how much you are willing to spend on the conversion, in order to decide on the viability.

If you DO decide to go for it do lots of research, ask garages how many omegas they have converted, and ask for contact details of conversions..... then ring and ask what the owners think.

There are many stories of conversions that have gone very badly wrong ... so be very, very careful.

£2000 divided by .09p per mile saved on the figs quoted =22,222.2 Recur to paay for the system, as Entwood says, you would need to do your sums based on the lifestyle  Would take me 7 years just to break even for the mileage I currently do.

Hate sums, me....   :-[

Done about 15k miles in the past 12 months, probable much the same in the year to come.

Could someone clever do a ball park breakdown of the monies involved in a conversion, please??   ;)

So.. 22k miles to repay... Allowing for a little petrol usage and the possibility of needing to replace HT items slightly sooner than if running petrol only, I'd say allow around 28-30k for repayment.

Which, incidentally, ties up with my calculations of 8k to repay my DIY conversion costing £700  ::) ::)

I've had over a year running about after full repayment now ;) :y

Easy... DIY, you'll save enough to cover the conversion in around 8 months (assuming LPG is readily available and not overpriced when compared to petrol)

"Professional", if done at the place Entwood had his done (the only one I've seen so far that would have been let loose on my car!) about 2 years for full repayment :y :y

So, in an estate, a flat torroidal tank will give about how much range?

Sounds like a recomendation there.  I have followed a few LPG threads in my time on the forum, and it seems there are some bodge artists out there.

Only way I think it would be viable for me is to buy an allready converted car, and even then I would not know if I was getting a good un.

Ask me again in 2 months time ::) ::)

Actually, can you get me the dimensions of the spare well at some point please Broocie? I'm looking at doing it soon if I get a new one :y :y

I believe that you can put a false floor in, raising it by about an inch, to get a bigger tank in. I reckon it'd be about 200 miles :-/ :-/

False floor is not really a current option, crate for the hound is in there just now.  She is too keen to jump out when the tailgate opens to consider the screen between rear and front at the moment without the door to the outside world being there.....

A couple of hundred miles I could live with.  Current commute pattern allows me past an Asda with LPG every 100/150 miles or so.....
