The diesel elite I've got has been off the road for 5 months or so up to now... (No mot / tax)

Was last running for about 5 mins at the end of November / start of December - must have been sat for at least 2 months before then too.

Went out to it today to move it, gave her 1 and a half goes on the glow plugs and turned the key... Like always, she fired straight up in a fraction of a second - starts faster than any other petrol Vauxhall I've owned! And shes got 189k on her  :) :y

I would say that the engine is the least of my worries on that car. ::)

I don’t think mileage is as important as people make out. Just because a car is low mileage doesn’t mean that it’s going to be fit/reliable, and likewise because a cars high mileage, doesn’t mean it’s worn out and ready for the scrap yard.

Agreed ian, there some cars on the road that are only 12 months old,and are not fit to be on the road.To tell you the truth i have always prefered higher milers,as you know at least they have been run in,and 9 times out of ten the common faults the car has,had alreadt been put right. :y

My dads old 2.0 carlton auto had 425k on the clock when we scrapped it (due to dire body), and it still ran like a dream. Bit smokey on startup but thats all. Only ever had 1 HG at about 300k and a diff at 250k but other than that all well maintained original  8-)

If its been well loved 10k or 400k makes no difference. Problem is proving its been well loved........

That is one of the key factors in purchasing any vehicle it is only as good as the previous owners servicing schedule.I also think at £1000 it would have to be immaculate and we know that is just not going to happen.
