BRAKE SQUEAL....
« on: 01 February 2010, 08:02:30 »

...some may recall york meet last year where had issues with the rear brakes and discs etc, anyway had the pads changed to Ferodo as best ones we could source at York on a Saturday, then changed the discs when returned to London. Anyway, ever since then the squeal coming from the rear brakes has been pissing me off, so on Saturday changed the rear pads to genuine GM ones at the discounted price of £41.00, originally wanted £56 :-X......Anyway results are no more brake squeal :y.......moral of the story stick to genuine GM stuff, Oh and thanks to Loo knee for sourcing the pads at short notice and changing them over :y

Just been on the phone to our Vx, apparently the ones I got for Mike's car were the Original ones which last longer  :-? plus it had new springs and new pins in too, where as the cheaper ones are after market pads, whatever that means, I said "Are you saying they aren't Vauxhall then?" he said "No just after market ones which don't last as long"..... plus they dont have the pins and springs in.

Can anyone confirm with there Vx... its an 01 car with rear vented discs.

See what price they come up with...

Won't be to happy if they are cheaper else where

I've just bought some (actually - I ordered them. Must pick them up from the stealer) and they were 11.99 on trade club.

At least, I bought a load of stuff and checked the total against what I was expecting and it matched, so if they've charged more they've undercharged for something else.

Vented or unvented disks at the rear makes no difference. Same pads apparently.

Makes the disks 'kin expensive though. :'(

Had a bit of a nose when it was at WIM few months back, looked like they had plenty of meat on the pads, no marks on the disc or big lip.  :)

The 'normal' ones you buy at a dealer (retail or TC) are different from the ones originally fitted at factory. For the rears, I personally would go for the TC ones.

The fronts, thats a different story.  The normal dealer ones are good, but the OE ones are even better.

Presumably you checked when you bled the brakes the other day, and also freed up the caliper a bit, and generally cleaned things up?

just been on the phone to my vauxhall in derby & they said you can buy some cheap pads 4 a omega but they r no good on a v6 which have vented discs on them, and the price is £62.86,so if you have vented discs dont buy cheap pads. :y

Thats the dealers talking BS again.  I'm not convinced that the higher performance pads are that important on the back of these...
