You'll be looking down the barrel at £1200-plus for the injection pump.

I'm sure that '82' refers to that No.4 injector failing - the 'start of injection' sensor within it actually.
Around 250 quid for this, as the sensor's not user-serviceable.

injector 4 is ok tryed it out on another tractor my mates bosses he says its the pump as tb said in other posts it's a sensor in the fuel pump.
he said if 4 failed the engine won't run, well it starts but runs rough.
just going to live with it I have driven cars with worse faults than this in the past.
it still lifts its feet just have to alter driving to suit :y

I have tried to ask same question or similar. If the sensor is not conected I think somebody wrote that it will still start. Just out of curiosaty (<-or however spelt) how much fuel is in tank before you got this 82 and also is EML flashing when changing gear (mine is betwean 3rd and 4th, the eml likes to flash).

Sorry my replie is of no real help but your answers will help me decide what to try next!

Will post again if I get to the bottom of it.

it flashed on a full tank you can feel the ecu limiting fuel.
to me its like the speed limiter on a lorry kicking in.
when you go to accelarate when cruising the engines gutless lift foot off gas then put pedal to the floor it goes like hell.
eml flashes when foot lifted off gas (mines a auto)

Thats exactly whot im getting need to change down a gear sometimes as well but think thats because travling to slow and the revs dont raise high enough to kick engine back in to run.(if  that makes sence to you). Thats a good comparison the speed limiter with HGV`s. Im driving it as though I have stolen the car, although it runs sweet then, its costing a fortune in juce.

Just spoke to an old friend with 325td and he said that when his bmw was doing same the problem he had was the fuel preshure was to low so after changing pump in his tank under rear seats and also another pump half way along his motor, knowing how bad the lift pump was this is where im starting to look again.

Whot preshure should be coming from tank and out of the filter can enibody advise. Now if ther is not high enough preshure reaching injectore no4 would that then throw back fault 82? or am I just fishing a cheep alternative for replacing the injector?(working fix?)

With this said and looking again at the fault codes surely 97 Wrong Fuelpump Adjustment would come up as well, no dout sombody would be able to tell us whether this is true or not!

the lift pump in the tank is what it says a lift pump it only suplies the filter the injector pump provides the preasure of around 2800psi-3000psi to crack the injectors thus providing  the fine mist.
the fault lies in the main pump ive turned mine up a bit it pulls better but the limiter effect is more noticable
all the bmw 325 & 525 have a third pump under the drivers seat.
common rail diesels are totaly different a constant preasure is required and the injectors are electronicly fired the above is mechanical
