Pug 406 HDi cambelt kit change
« on: 21 February 2010, 15:34:18 »

Has anyone here ever done a cambelt on a 2.0 406 HDi?

I've done one on the old 1.9 TD, but never a newer one.

I want to do one, ideally next Sunday - need to know if it's still a "DIY" job on these French cars...  ::) :y

From what i can see, the belt layout on the 406 1.9td is the same as the 2.0 hdi.

Isn't the 1.9TD an "indirect injection" setup, whereby the HDi is direct injetion.. and hence wouldn't have a mechanical injection pump powered by the cambelt?  ::) :-/  :D

Head gasket went, once I fixed that the camshaft snapped in two :o :o

Thought it was my fault until a friend who was a metalugist confirmed that there was an air bubble in the camshaft at the point of fracture........I also witnessed french quality control when I worked in a factory for a short while over there.  2 hour lunch break where you could drink a whole bottle of wine (supplied at the canteen) and then carry on working!  We were building the isolators for the tgv power lines  :o :o :o

Eurostar is fine, its the bolt on frog signaling bit that stopped them in the tunnel.

Admittedly it's the whole customer service experience that makes all the difference when something does fail. They truly have mastered the art of the ".. and that's my problem because?" attitude when you're stranded on the wrong side of the channel with a ticket that's printed in slightly the wrong colour ink. >:(

For that reason, the engineering might well be fantastic, but it's the boat for me every time. ;)

Hmm be careful James and check before you do it,
but the last HDI peugot i did required a hertz meter for the belt to be set properly!! and they aint cheap but without it being set with one the the belt isnt guaranteed against early failure!!
this was on an 806 2litre hdi but think they all the same :-/

Thing is - I can't see many garages having one of those, so I may do just as well do make an edificated guess as to the tension myself...  :-/
