A Lucky Escape...
« on: 09 April 2010, 21:23:33 »

Driving home today, I got a strong smell of diesel in the car and gradual reduction of visibility out of my rear window, but, not from smoke...

As back in December, I cleaned the electric pump in the tank and changed the filter, I felt they would be good places to start, to find a possible leak..

The filter was fine, so I set about clearing the boot, to check the tank.  When I did the tank, I was aware that I hadn't replace the jubilee clips on the hoses, so I was expecting to find one of the hoses loose, but, I was in for a big surprise...

When I lifted the panel, I could see diesel on the top of the tank, but the hoses were still firmly attached...  The tank access panel however, was not...  I found that the collar holding the panel on was fully unscrewed and the top flapping about  :-/...  So I removed it all and resat the seal and then replaced the collar (went on very easily and definately locked into place) and screwed it on firmly...  Just need to clean the mess up the back of the car now  ::)...
