Nasty crack in windscreen
« on: 17 April 2010, 13:19:47 »

Picked this up few weeks ago, parked next to 4x4 think someone dropped something on the screen as there is a mark on the glass were the crack beings.

Now its on the passenger side, and it curved back in, but now its gone again slightly and starting to go up the screen.

Can i get away with it? As its out of drivers view would that be an MOT issue? Which is not until September....

If i called Autoglass i know there is nothing they can do, so i guess it would cost my insurance excess?  :'(

I had exactly the same with my windscreen on the CDX, and I just watched as day by day Tunnie the crack ran up the screen :'( :'(

The only option was to replace using Autoglass, and pay the £60 excess on my insurance. ;) ;)

I don't know Tunnie, as I couldn't stand watching it grow and replaced before it got there! ;)

I understand a modern windscreen is part of the strength of the body shell, so I personally take no risks with them. :)

juct change it Tunnie. £75 is the only cost. Could try it on and wangle a heat reflective screen, although they block dash board gps signal.

Yes a crack in a screen is an MOT fail.

Change it - if you go over a pothole the whole screen can go!!

Cracks in the screen are only an MOT faliure if they're in the area where the wipers sweep. Thats is in that area by the looks so, yes, it's an MOT faliure.

I could do with a crack in my screen  ::), it's got 161000 miles of general marks on it, and is difficult to see through in low sun.

Well you could try, as it's illegal for lorries to be unsheeted now with stones/mud in, crack your screen yourself, go round a roundabout with an unsheeted lorry if you see one ring the company then say mud fell out of there and cracked your screen  :y

Crack my own screen!?! :-? I was just saying that I had an auto centre pop  ::)  ::)  ::)  ::)  :y

You don't need unsheet lorries for cracked screens. Years back, my Senator had a small crack at the very bottom of the screen, it was there for a couple of years, almost unoticable. After leaving the car facing the sun one afternoon, it grew the height of the screen, and it was replaced. About a fortnight later, the prat in front of me, put his off side wheels off the tarmac on a fast B road while we were both over taking something, and broke the bloody thing again!  >:(
