Major Towing Job Completed & MPG Feedback
« on: 01 May 2010, 06:54:45 »

Well, I survived a 520 Mile towing day yesterday.

260 of them with an empty car trailer and then 260 back with it full of another Mig  :y

My 2.5 Auto estate perfomed fantastically I have to say. On the outward journey the average MPG (according to the car) was 27.3, and on the return an amazing 26  ;)

On the way down I kept it to about the 60 mark, and on the way back didn't go above 50 - really trying to read the road ahead to avoid too much braking etc.

The return journey was quite tiring due to bank holiday weekend traffic & having to take a few detours to avoid conjested motorways, but I was well impressed with the fuel consumption and comfort of the car over this marathon journey - or is that 20 marathons?  8-)

Anyway, the new toy is safely installed in the garage and has a great long list of things that need sorting - so I'll be back regularly as I do down my checklist.

Have a great holiday weekend all.

Cheers ........... Rob

He's a good motorist Tunnie.

He stuck to the law whilst towing.  :y

That combination would have been massively overweight possibly legally, and for the towcar.

Just goes to show though what a great towcar the Omega is, glad you kept to safe speeds. :y

The place I got the trailer looked at the weights and said it would be ok, although I'm not sure that defence would hold up in court.

However, I think that might have been what I wanted to hear also TBH!

I was passed by several Police cars - mind you I was also passed by everything else.

The new toy is overheating, Initiatally suspected blocked rad (as  I had a spare one) so flushed it out (over and over) and got out loads of crud.

That then got the heater working hot again but she is still boiling over. So, next job is thermostat now she is back here.

The car had the oil cooler replaced 15k ago, so I suspect crud in the system as being the root cause.

Once the heating is sorted it's breathers/rocker covers/aux belt/tensioner/cambelt and a good service before presenting for MOT and see what happens.

Bodywork is in good conditiion - or at least it was until I knackered the front bumper on the trailer  :(.

Jobs already sorted are new battery, reset airbag light and got stereo working.

So, hopefully sometime shortly I'll have a roadworthy 74k Elite and can move my estste on.  :y
