I wanting to sell my saab which is the 93 vector sport 1.9 TID 150 on a 55 plate and i took it up to the garage today to book it in to have the clutch and flywheel done before i put it up for sale. Now i told the guy at the garage that i was going to sell it and he asked me if i wanted to swap for his Merc 320ML on a V plate with 86,000 on the clock but this is the thing i have no clue as to what these 4x4's are worth and and if the 3.2 petrol is a good seller or are ML's good sellers. It's a deep red met with tan leather and seven seats, looks as if it has all the toys and i took it up the road and for a some thing the size of a house it goes like stink. I dont want it for myself cos i have the MV6 which i love but do they sell and is it worth more than my saab :-/

i would not touch ML with Barge poll, came out worst in top gear survery, think it was just a few off the bottom 

Built right in the era when Merc quality was at their lowest too, its no match for the Saab

Thanks guys for your help, i think i'll say no and just sell the saab for pound notes unless any body wants to swap an aston or lamborghini for the saab

What are the R class like? It's not for now, they're a bit pricey  ,  I saw one the other day, but if I've seen one before I've never taken enough notice to realise what it was. A heavy 4x4 diseasal 'estate' people carrier looked as though it could be useful with a towbar on the back

I've currently got two 2004 Merc E-Classes, and have been pleased with the quality, so I wouldn't let the quality concern you.

The R-Class hasn't been a massive seller, so that helps and hinders you.
Top spec one's hold their value fairly well, but compared to other Merc models they lose money quickly.

However, Mercs do have an inbuilt need to go to main dealers. For example, both my 04 and 54 plate Mercs don't have dip stick's...you check the oil level by pressing some buttons on the steering wheel in a certain order. Certain common computer's don't connect to them, batterys can go flat very quick.

Had the same issue today, the E220 had a flat battery just after two weeks or so.

So, you could get a 'cheap' one, but it will continue to lose money at a great rate.

It's not something I'd consider myself.

So Mercs are nice vehicles, but just be careful and check things, you may not think to check.

Mmm? :-? No engine dipstick? That's a good idea!  Bad enough on the gearbox but none on the engine is taking things a bit far. I drove a C180 that asked for a certain amount of oil  while we were on the motorway.
An E Class is also a maybe.

Thanks, i would be keeping the saab as it's dam good fun to drive and very quick but i'm moving up to the midlands so it's going to be a change of job and i dont need two cars and i dont want to get rid of the omega so the saab is the one to go

You're right Andy...it's not a good idea. Everything on a Merc, or at least newer one's is designed to be done at a main dealer.
I think it's be much better to be able to look at the dipstick, asess the quality of the oil in there and decide if it needs a change. But you can't do that. So when the on board computer tells you, you need a service you have no choice but to have it done.
Certain bolts can only be removed my Merc tools.
They are nice vehicles, but I'm not sure if I would want one to keep...I'd be too worried.

The E-Classes are RWD so not bad to drive, the E220 CDI I've got is a 6 speed manual, and has 150 bhp...but does return very good MPG.
The other one is a E240, but is actually a 2.6 V6 but only called E240. But that only produces 170 bhp, whilst the Omega 2.6 has 179 bhp...so it's swings and roundabouts.
