Signum DMF issue again - I may lose out
« on: 08 June 2010, 15:48:08 »

At 15000 the DMF and clutch went on my wife's Signum - it was less than 1 year old, After a dust up with VX Luton and photos to refute driver abuse - they replaced everyting FOC via a VX dealer who today is no longer a VX dealer. It has now done 43000 and is 3 months short of warranty expiry. VX dealer reporting a gearbox rattle and yes here is the catch - if it is a fitting error then I pick up the bill and battle it out with first dealer- if it is a component fault then VX sort it. Have put the first garage in touch with current VX dealer and asked the latter ot take photos on what is discovered. If it is fitment issue then they will invite first garage to see it - if they refuse then we take it from there.

As I say - car ownership is character forming. It only went in for new gear assembly as gear knob keeps falling off - a fault on Vectra and Signum but resolveable out of warranty by supaglue according to Vectra C and Signum forum

Oh dear...........and I had thoughts of buying one of these.

Is it a one off or can it be problem with this model?

Don't like the sound of two dealers getting their heads together on this, sounds more like lets think up an excuse to tell you! :-X

still waiting for prognosis on this - hope to give news tomorrow - the Signum is a great car - most experience is that once you have the dmf changed it should not fail again.

I got a garbled message from garage via my wife that parts had been ordered which suggests it is another dmf failure.

I gather its a 1.9 cdti???
The worst engine you can have, dont mean to sound nasty, work for vauxhall and see endless faults with 1.9s, if you want a diesel get a v6 cdti, loose a bit of mpg but less trouble.
Used to own an 06 vectra sri v6 cdti and never had one bit of trouble..

DMF's on diesels, what a nightmare.

They cause issues on Fords, VAG's, BMW's the bloody lot.

I do know that it was changed on the 1.9's around 2008.....and had a different cover plate to (although the driction disk is the same).

These seem to last a LOT better.

Only other issue is the EGR valves and they are a piece of piss to sort.

A friend had the exact same issue with a 56 Astra 1.9 diesel. 2 x DMF's, 2 x Clutch and 1 x gearbox in total - most of which was 10,000 miles out of warranty though and Vx were barstewards when it came to helping him out with the 4 figure bills  :(

He also got through 3 x EGR valves in 111k

Just been advised that it is yet another DMF failure basis excessive side to side movement and is a full warranty claim. Clutch is ok although if I want to replace using Trade Club card then they will do it but say it is unnecessary.

The new gearstick and components are being fitted now under warranty as well so in total about £1200 of work at retail prices being done.

Diary - replace vehicle in 2 years max or hopefully in the meantime someone on here can come up with a good price for DMF replacements on Vectra/Signum!!

just as follow up - the noise was not the usual tell tale sound of DMF clattering it was far less pronounced and was more an occasional clunk. Message - anyone out there with 1.9 cdti vehicles - drop it into dealer and ask them to listen for unusual noises re DMF.

To be honest my dealer went straight for it and could have fobbed me off - but then I have spent a fair amount with them over the years.

For us it has been a good car as it was virtually new when we got it and when we have had problems VX gave replacement vehicles.

Out of warranty I would worry now about the 1.9 diesel and this dmf problem and so would go for an automatic or obviously a petrol version as it is the torque on the diesel that is the problem.

Tremendous mpg for a big car and a good spec at Design level with built in Sat Nav.

I will not got the car back until tomorrow as they had some problems with the sub frame which is interesting because just had 2 tyres and the old ones had a bit of scuffing on edges.

Dealer did not know about the tyres issue and just made comment that he had to get sub frame right or I would end up with tyre scuffing so maybe there was an issue. Anyway will have to check when Wheels in Motion get themselves sorted out with my local STS in Camberley for alignment.
