Wow, i didnt realise i would get so much feedback  ;D

Basically, The car has no mot or tax, its been sitting there for around 2yrs so brakes are prob seized, it was parked up due to an ABS problem so cant reli be towed legally with a towing bar (I do have one of these)

So as i dont have a towbar, and neither does any1 else in my family it has to be done by hiring car and trailer + fuel which as u can imagine mounts up in £££'s.

There's a few places on Ebay that will transport a car for about £1 a mile one way ;)

I can reccomend a firm that I recently used and the guy was fantastic, it was around about a £1 a mile one way he can offer cheaper prices if he is going that way to maybe collect something from Devon, he took great care of the car I was having moved and updated me all the time.

Like you I was tempted to move the car myself but factor in the legalities and potential fines for overloading trailers and towing weights etc and you can get this guy to move it hassle free and it's door to door.

http://www.singlevehicle.co.uk/

I hope the link works, if not just google single vehicle movements.

If someone has a trailer available and doesn't want to do the full journey I'm going to Plymouth next Friday afternoon (stopping in Dorchester) and may well be able to do the towing.

But, TBH, if you can get it moved for £1/mile it's a good deal as that'll include insurance etc :y

Hi all, just a quick one to ask if anyone can help?

My sis has a car that she desperatly needs taking back to her house in Devon, the car is currently in aldershot Hampshire.

Just wondered if anybody fancied earning themselves some money and would include free meals etc.. :D

We looked into the cost of hiring a trailer etc and its more money than she can afford to be honest.

Like i say she is desperate as where it is now at my mothers she is moving soon. :(

Now I'm totally confused. If its been there for 2 years why the sudden panic to get it back? Surely given the possible cost of getting it back it woud be better to scrap it locally & get £150 or so for it?

Rob, she wants the car back because my mum is moving house and it obviously cant b left there when shes gone!

No way will she scrap it, shes spent alot on the car and its not ur usual heap of jap, its actually pretty decent and worth saving.

Fair enough, I'm just saying that by the very fact that its not been touched for 2 years it cant be thought of very highly.

Good luck with the endeavour

I broke down recently...
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1277723776
...and to be honest my only thoughts were of getting the car the 100 miles back home. We just connected the tow rope and got on with it... not much thought was given to the legality of what we were doing-with regards to train weights or other such nonsense!

Hey Brik, yeah i read through your ordeal, what a nightmare! i wud tow it with a metal bar thing ive got, but as the brakes are probably no existant and it has no mot or tax i dont wanna get the car taken off me and crushed, in my opinion its not worth the risk nowadays. Plus its not my car anyway haha.

and remember to check what you have on your driving licence, i passed my test in 1998 so im only allowed to tow up to 750kg without passing a dedicated trailer test.

have been advised by local plod that im ok to tow a car with a rope or bar, but not a trailer or aframe/dolly, as a rope or bar requieres a driver in the towed car and the car requires mot and tax etc, but a car on a aframe or dolly doesnt require a driver so youd need the trailer part of the licence there all stamped and correct.

its a minefield!

i couldnt tow anything with my transit, as it was a 3500kg van even a little halfrauds trailer would have put the train wieght over the 3500kg on my licence

I used to drive a LWB transit too funnily enough for work so i know where ur comin from mate.

And Gaffers i got a proper rigid towing bar myself but as u say the towing car has to hav mot n tax which it dosent sadly.

Surely you mean the car to be towed?

When I last spoke to the local plod I was in a similar situation.  I asked the question and I was told as long you put a light bar and the plate of the car doing the towing on the light board and took the plate off the car to be towed he was happy.  I had his PC number written down in case I was pulled over but no dramas from Bristol all the way to E Hampshire  :y
