Hi and would just like to say a big thanks to all on this site for the help and support over the last few months with advice and words of wisdom.

I've now sold the Omega as it was struggling a bit with the caravan in tow. I've now bought a Ssangyong Rexton 2.7XDi which should do the job more comfortably. Don't laugh!  :-[

I will still be around as I've given the car to one of my sons so happy to keep it in the family as it's a great car: I'll still be bobbing in for help and advice and the odd chat.

Again, this is a great site full of helpful and knowlegable people, long may it continue! :y

How big is the caravan? Despite my caravan being 7m long, mine has a kerb weight of only just over a tonne and a gross of around 1300kg which my Omega pulls with ease. ........ just drinks like a fish doing so  :-?  ;D  ;D  ;D

Actually i must not laugh, few years ago at the Motorshow (when we had one) we got a demo drive into the 4x4 course in a Kia Sorento. It proved very capable, driving through water up to windscreen, up some very steep muddy sections, and generally very impressive.

I think these Korean cars have taken Lada type image but i think some of them are quite capable.

 ;D I was expecting the laughs and wasn't dissapointed!

I surprised myself at my choice of replacement to be honest. I set out to look at some Japanese 4x4s (Shogun, Terrano, Patrol etc) and came across a Rexton by chance. I was impressed at how it drove and the Mercedes 5-pot diesel and 5-speed tiptronic box are very refined.

Ok, it's not a Landcruiser but it's about 1/3 the price, seems well bolted together and hopefully will give good service.

Glad I could give you guys a laugh, no offence taken as there was none meant.

It is a bloody silly name though!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sorry to hear about the Omega Acu :( - as long as you have something that now fits the bill, that's the important thing.

Cheers Zulu,

As said earlier the Omega is a great car and still in the family with my lad's ownership, he got a real bargain (£0). I'd done too much to the car to let it go to a stranger for peanuts so it's worked out well.

Our 2.2DTi towed the Mrs' caravan with ease (and half a tank gave 275 Miles). I'm not surprised though as the DTi only has 10Nm less torque than a 3.2

4wd gives much better stability though but we just don't want to pay the running costs for another one at the moment. We only take the Caravan to Cornwall at easter and bring it back in October and it doesn't add up to run the 4wd.

I did all of my sums last summer when we decided to upgrade the caravan. From previous Omega ownership I'd been impressed with the ability of my 2.2 CDX manual to tow a 1200KG Caravan with realative ease and great stability. Not wanting the fuel costs of a V6 (I know this is arguable) and also not wanting to spend too much on a car I use to tow and run back and forth to the station daily a 2.2 sprang to mind. I loved my previous 2.2 but it did give me some problems for a 3-year old car, still I decided to bite the bullet and get another.

The car has been reliable but I have spent much money and time on it and it still has issues. Also given that the new caravan is 1500Kg the car was at it's limits when towing. It was 'okay' but ran out of puff on a long motorway gradient.

Hence the replacement. No issues at all with Omegas but now have something that should tow with ease. Lets hope it's trouble free.

I've just returned from France with our Lunar Delta 520/2 caravan on the back of my 3.0 V6
In total I did 1550 miles and used 81.2 gallons  :o  :o  :o  :o  :o
