Diesel Tuning??

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have just bought a 2000 CDX 2.5td and wondered if this was the same engine as the 2.5dti? Some tuning websites list the 2.5td and the 2.5dti as the same but my car is the 130bhp model and I'm lead to believe the 2.5dti has 150bhp.


Any help would be much appreciated! I will try to get pics up tomorrow as the Scottish weather is at it's best right now lol!

In you're in the UK we never got the 150 BHP 2.5 DTi  :y

When the original 2.5 Straight 6 was dis-continued it got replaced with Vauxhall's own 2.2 DTi.

He does mention scottish weather  :P

Suspect these tuning sites just listing it incorrectly, if it says same year its ok.

The BMW 2.5 TD in the Omega was de-tuned, it can easily be chipped back to full BMW spec, but you must have a manual. If its an auto the box needs to be upgraded to the stronger AR35 found in 3.0 & 3.2's, there are some members here who can provide details on some chips and a very good price  :y

Yeah I'm up in Scotland.

I heard the 2.5td was de-tuned from 150hp to 130hp due to the gearbox not tolerating it lol! It is the manual I have and it feels pretty punchy standard. I was told it would be fairly easy to get her up to the 180hp mark..?  :)

There are various chips out there, i've driven one which has been chipped to the limits of the engine, and that pulled quite well. (tyres lasted 4k  ::))

Being a manual, you've got no probs chipping it. Drop a PM to TheBoy, he will point you in the right direction of some good TD chips  :y

I believe the only difference is the common rail added on the DTi... I have remapped mine and I have almost 200 bhp now  :)

Slightly off topic, but I was having a play with a new Astra 1.9 CDTi in full VXR guise.  I was in my newly acquired 3.0 Omega (Auto).

Wasn't until I hit 3rd gear that I started to make ground on the thing..... and no definitive proof, but I'm quite sure she (yes, she) was trying, because of the black smoke on gear changes.

Damn it and blast, those things shift!  :o

Diesel is the way to go!

I just dont like how you 'have' to drive the things.  If I wanted to redline every time I needed pace, or change down multiple gears just to climb a slight incline, I'd buy a V-Tec Honda, or indeed a Diesel.

There is something so crudely satisfying about gently pushing the throttle very slowly to the carpet and watching most things disappear into the rear view mirror distance.

On another note, yes, modern diesels are much MUCH more refined, but the sound of them makes me want to puke  ;D

Now that will have an interesting power/weight ratio ...  although the torque might make it somewhat "skittish" .... :)
