i know of an early ex plod 3.2 estate that easily pulled through 150 with the fuel light on. ran out of fuel about a mile later.  :-[ went like a train 'til it ran out. :o can't quite remember, but is it still illegal to run out of fuel on an autobahn? ::) also not sure if carrying no fuel would have made much difference to the kerb weight of a mig estate?

The larger engined ones do seem to have more go, and 140 is fairly quick and easy.  3.0l top speed quoted around 150.

Some-one told me that the 3.0 autos don't change into fourth gear until 110 m.p.h. The same person told me he'd been in one that was driven at 155
 ::)
Driven hard, a retail spec 3.0l auto will pop into 4th at a shade under 130mph.

Just looked at the 4.2 diff thread that chris started and worked out the speed  per 1000 rpm in all gears, interesting are the numbers if the V6 could hold on till 7000rpm.

            7.80               12.70       18.80       26.00

1000            7.80              12.70       18.80       26.00
2000            15.60       25.40       37.60       52.00
3000            23.40       38.10       56.40       78.00
4000            31.20       50.80       75.20       104.00
5000            39.00       63.50       94.00       130.00
6000            46.80       76.20       112.80      156.00
7000            54.60       88.90       131.60       182.00

Seen 120 in 3rd on my 2.5 auto and it was confirmed by a T5 police roofbox @118mph

But not sure how the gearing differs on 2.5 compaired to a 3.2.

Also cant remember the change point in sport mode, think it's only 5500 on mine.

Never maxed the 3.0 Elite in 3rd. Was scary enough when I was confirmed at doing 118mph on what I thought was a private test track at 3am, never ventured above 100mph since.  ::)
Most retail spec 3.0 autos change up (at redline) from 3rd to 4th at a shade under 130mph.  On runways, obviously.

I've got a limiter on mine when I hit 75 mph it kicks in and an alarm sounds in my ear its called the missus and it sounds like this 'ITS 70 ALONG HERE' ;D
As for the lanes you should see her cr#p herself sometimes think she's going to snap the grab handle off ;D

Karl showed me the video someone had taken showing the speed on the speedo. . . . I must admit I would have soiled myself lmao

Just adding that when i was on the autobahn with Vader, 45mph was reached in first, 85 mph in second, 130 mph in third I then quickly came up to my turn off. On the run back tom tom read 147mph I then bricked it and shut off. . .
Vader was a 3.0 mv6 auto which not many were allowed to drive. I was stupid to get rid of that car. .

Have genuinely seen 151 on the satnav, (158 on speedo) on my 3.0 V6 elite estate, have witnesses (kacking themselves, as was me) and admit to a certain "instability" at that speed, stupid to do it, but really wanted to see what she would do .In retrospect, it would have been easy to twitch the steering and write it off so easily, hard to keep in a straight line, too. NOT something I would want to repeat. Not bad for a ten year old car, but Blimey........instant consumption (if it is to be believed) showed SIX mpg, and I used £20 of fuel in that little blast.

Proud, but stupid.

Reminds me of when I lent my GPS to a mate of mine when we were convoying to Le Mans once.

He proudly showed me the max speed reading where he'd bricked it (about 125 MPH IIRC). ;D

Next week I mentioned "oh, I broke your speed record, by the way" and handed it back reading 174MPH. The look on his face was a picture. :D

I eventually admitted to having set the "record" in a glider. 135 knots air speed with a 20 knot tail wind made it pretty easy. In fact, I could just as easily have gone up to the 146 knot
Vne in that glider and made it 190 MPH. ;D
