Auto Omega
« on: 15 September 2010, 19:08:23 »

Chaps and non chaps...im soon too be looking at getting shot of our MPV and buy a Auto Omega.

It has too be an auto as thats all the wife can or will drive...me im not fussed.

Ive got a 2.2 on loan manual and find its adequate...what would you suggest,a 2.0/2.2/2.5 (dont even go there on 3.0).

Also silly question what would the forum say would be cheaper 4 pot or V6 too buy..running costs are not really an issue.
Wifey is fairly new too driving...although handles out 2.3 MPV fine.

Thanks in advance.

If running costs aren't an issue then get the best 3.2 you can for your money. Owning a 2.2 i would definately say go for a V6 lot more grunt and not that much difference in MPG :y

I'm a little confused.  You are on an extremely tight budget, but running costs aren't an issue?  Sounds like a contradiction to me.

You can pick up a good 3.0 Elite in Mini Facelift guise for well under a grand with Service History.

Has to personaly buy a car, but has a mileage allowance work wise maybe.  :y

No folks...im on a tight budget due too being skint.

Running costs not a big deal as doing very little mileage...and even a 2.5 wouldnt be any worse than the MPV at 20mpg.

i"ll be looking at region of £500.... :-/

If going to auto I would say go for a 2.5/2.6. You will lose quite a bit of performance going to a 2.0/2.2 auto from a manual and I doubt you'll see much, if any, difference in economy from the smaller V6 over a 2.2 auto.

The 3.0 and 2.5 return almost identical MPG figures... even the diesels aren't that much more frugal hacking around town.

The Missus wont kill herself, you only go as fast as you push the pedal.

Your budget will see you in a 3.0 Elite, but will require further money spent tidying up.  I've now bought 2 Elites for that money, both in 'good' condition.  As with any car of the age you'll be looking at, maintenance is key.  :y

Go for the 2.5td or the 2.2td the 2.5 mostly came in auto form and the 2.2 came mostly in manual form :y

Cheers guys...really cannot look at the 3.0 as an option.

Ive drove one and its fine for me but she plants the throttle on the MPV and its fine as its slug fast...3.0 omega planted throttle, hmmm we know what that feels like. ;D

2.5 looks the best option...Mini face lift would be good as hate the old candle lights on early models.

Given what's already been said, I would imagine the deciding factor on engine size would be Insurance Premium tbh? :-/

To be frank, if forgetting economy, there isn't much difference in performance between the 2.5 and 3.0 either.  Both will easily double the Motorway speed limit, and both will hit 60 within a second of eachother.

I'm a funny old git, but I cant stand the thought of owning something which has a 'better' version out there..... especially when they cost the same!  :y
