We had a fairly respectable storm here last night with winds gusting well over 60mph. At just past 5am with the wind at it's height, there was a loud rattle followed by a bang & what sounded like tiles exploding on the drive below our bedroom window! As this is where my Omega is parked, I did a disabled version of shooting out of bed & promptly stubbed my toe nails on the dressing table , which woke the dogs, who thought I was an intruder, & barked the bloody house down :-?
Went outside in the pouring rain/howling wind with a torch & did a quick (very) scan for debris (none found), back to bed. Up at 6.30 for the school run, checked the car, found smashed tile pointing cement all over the screen! After clearing the mess, the screen is badly scratched in three impact areas but I can hardly feel them with my fingers . I have some powdered glass rubbing compound I bought off egay last year to try polishing out the wiper arcs etched into the screen but never got around to using. Looks like i'm going to get to try it out now though! I count myself fortunate the screen wasn't broken. I'll let you know how I get on with polishing the screen scratches just as soon as I can feel my hands again

I have successfully cleaned some scratches from cars windscreen several times in the past.. but not with bare hands..

and not from miggy..

you need a polisher , mountains of patience and hard paste..

ps: later cars after 2000 is harder to clean as I had bad experiences with them.

used to do this for a living!! you need a tub of jewellers rouge and polishing machine with a hard pad on and loads of water!!
however do not go by feel, if you do you will have a wonky windscreen and distorted vision through it,where the rouge polishes away the glass!! just polish it till you cant see the scratches from inside the car, do not press hard on the polisher
and do not let the screen get hot when doing the work take plenty of breaks to allow it to cool down, the car will be absolutely covered in red dried paste afterwards but it washes off easy!!

may be best to get a professional in if you aint confident of doing it,

thats less than the excess insurance companies charge, I have never seen a windscreen that cheap, that cannot be the cost to the public.

You wont find cheaper than your excess. I have had a windscreen crack and drivers window some nob stole my ipod both were £70 each You dont even need to ring your insurance. Autoglass will just do it for your excess fee
