...remove my windscreen without damaging it?

As I'm at a loose end whilst waiting for a courier to come pick up a gear box, I thought I might as well try and remove the windscreen from the Omega. I couldn't get hold of any 'cheese wire', and was advised against using an old brake cable from my Daughters bike, so I'm going to attempt to cut it out with a large craft knife.

Does anybody fancy rating my chances of getting it out with out damaging it, or my self, for that matter!

Also does anybody have an idea of what a good condition (at the moment) second hand Mv6 windscreen is worth?
And will it be worth less if I bleed all over it?

I'll let you know how I get on...

Careful, that could cause a lot of damage. Auto Windscreens who replaced mine mentioned a guy who almost cut off is arm when knife slipped 

Cheese wire with some good handles is by far best route, i'd try and obtain that rather than risk using a big knife

I suspect a 2nd hand windscreen would be worth close to sod all. They aren't that expensive to buy, and fitting is a specialist job

agreed.. watched this procedure several times.. but you will need some help to use the wire.. and to install the screen.. also cleaning the old isolation material is critical imo.. if you cant , windscreen will leak..

Had my screen replaced monday, The guy said it is very hard to get out undamaged. He did it very carefully and still ended up with big cracks!

I managed to hack my way up one edge, along the top, down the other side... then I got bored and decided to see how much a boot load of Omega wiring loom is worth at the local scrap yard!

With banger racing we have to take out loads of windows.  The bonded ones are a real pain in the A**E!!  Even with the correct tools, which don't last too long, still  end up with large cracks in them! Its no easier to take them out with the gentle persuader (hammer)

I have about a 50% success rate taking out screens without breakage

I don't see the point in getting it out, it's not like you can self install them like the old Cortina days. On top of that i've seen Autoglass crack more than one trying to install them (think my bosses old Senator took 3 attempts), easier to pay them a set fee and let them take the risk.
