corsa gearbox drive shaft

Hi on my corsa c 1.2 gearbox drive shaft is knocking, when changing gear and on uneven roads. Is the drive shaft worn or the gearbox, and there is play on drive shafts.

Normally driveshafts knock when applying power while turning sharply, uneven ground doesn't usually affect them unless they are really knackered. Are you sure it's not a suspension joint that's knocking

Yes checked suspension and bushes all ok
just wondered do these ware on the drive shaft or gearbox
how much for a gearbox and drive shafts

Knocks or clicks and does it get worse when on lock in a particular direction.

If clicks then it could be the CV joint, normaly the outer but could be the inner.

Corsas have a habit of shedding the CV gaitor clips resulting in grease loss and joint wear.

SO check the boots are all ok to help pin point the offending item

I should add that when you say play, is it plunge play or vertical play.

The former should be present, the latter not. If the latter and its at the gearbox end it could be gearbox output shaft bearings (very rare on Gm boxes, quite common on Fords)

Hmmm
Our Corsa C has a clonk when changing up and also over rough surfaces. can feel it through the drivers side floor mostly.
Eventually traced it to the steering rack, the bush that supports the sliding rack has play (not the inner ball joint). Since it means changing the rack I decided to ignore it for now.
Drive shafts usually wear first at the outer CV, full lock and gentle power illicits a clonk-clonk-clonk noise. Wear at the inboard end is usually more of a whirr or drone and wear in the diff support bearings is usually accompanied by a whine which changes in pitch with drive/overrun.

Hi more like vertical play dose not seem to clicking when turning seems to knock on uneven roads  come from both wheels in a strait line  and the gaiters seems to be ok
