Ford Ka suspension
« on: 12 October 2010, 15:49:04 »

Hi all, can anyone tell me if spring compressors are required to change the rear springs on a Ka. I've had a quick look under the car and think they may be.
TIA
Tony

Officially yes, although I've changed them using a plumbers wrench before now. With the shock at full extension and the wrench pulling a coil down on the slightly longer side you can get the nut on a turn or so ;)

You can do them without spring compressors but they can be a pain because all that holds the top cup on is a small spring clip. If you can get someone to push down on the top you should be able to remove it but it might take a while. I tend to cheat and use the edge of a two post ramp but most people don't have one of those..
