Yep, don't think I have ever replaced that o ring on mine, no problems so far....

My dealer will generally put one in with the filter without me asking.

Yeah, they did the same for me, I lost the o ring, no idea where it went, certainly not on the car

Your local motor-factors will probably carry Torx sump plugs for a VX......mine does and the entire thing (new plug and o-ring) only costs £1.50
