does the temp gauge always move alot or does mine have a fault. ?

No they usually stay fairly static at the temperature reached ;) ;)

Check the spade connection on top of the block in the 'V' at the rear of the engine ;) ;)

It depends on your driving at the time. If in traffic mine does go up and down a bit as the fan kicks in and out.
