Insurance Hidden Agenda??
« on: 01 November 2010, 22:27:55 »

The story with my damaged miggy as described before is still ongoing as I have decided to attempt to get it professionally repaired regardless of an absurd engineers report producing "beyond economic repair" decisions!!  More about that later!

However, today I have had an interesting conversation with the insurers of the third party who's car hit mine in the Sainsbury's car park, for which they have declared full responsibilty.

I explained what an engineer had reported on what I know to be cosmetic damage to my car as "beyond economic repair" which they have surprisingly seen, but neither my insurance company nor me have!! :o :o :o :o  In fact they even stated I have agreed to the write off, and a cheque is on its way (all complete nonense!!!)

Anyway, I go off topic!  What the lady at the third parties insurance company, Liverpool & Victoria, confirmed, when I ranted about maybe a hidden (Government??) agenda to get old cars off the road, was they (the staff) did wonder often about the decisions to write off cars with only minor damage.  But she knew that the LV had a policy of always declaring cars over ten years old, with even cosmetic damage, a write off!! ::) ::)

I spoke to my insurance company, the Royal Sun Alliance, and they didn't deny such a policy existed,  but after I had ranted to them about the whole affair over my latest misfortune, and I described the actual damage to my car, they have stated they will repair.

Tomorrow I take the car to the approved repairer for an estimate in advance of repair, so we will see what they say.  However, this time I will be standing next to the engineer as he assesses!! :D :D :D :D

They better give me the right result!

Well Lizzy, my brother had a terrible Peugeot 306.  It was a hiddeous car.  Had a body kit which only a 17yr old would love. (This is only a few months ago).

He was hit in the rear quarter by a car exiting a side road.  Blame obviously stood with the car exiting a minor road.

The 306 was a 1998 306 XSi.  Valued at around £800 I'd say.

The repair bill was sent to the insurance company (my friends garage gave the quote).  The bill amounted to £575.

THEY GAVE THE GO-AHEAD!

My dear little SWMBO had a near identical accident in her 1997 Peugeot 106 (Value about £800)...... Repair bill came to £150, and it was written off.

There seems to be no rules, no regulations.

Although, for cosmetic damage, you are better off accepting it as an insurance write-off, buying it back from the insurance company (usually 10% market value) and getting it back on the road!  :y
