do i follow the maintenance guide to change a rear spring on a TD. i surmise its the same. ta in advance

Ray undo the shock and jack down the arm the spring will fall out.
I use a bottle jack to jack the arm down

I second that, unbolting the diff etc is overkill.

thankyou, it passed its mot on the 9th nov & the missed that  the n/s spring had the top & bottom piggy tails missing.

Agreed - used a large lump of wood as a lever with spring well clamped

Obviously, it goes without saying, replace BOTH rear springs.


Sometimes you can get away with just unbolting the lower shock mount, often you can't.

Yours were an utter bitch.  Heavy duty, plus the pikey inner spring assisters

... I just get SWMBO to stand on the other end and the spring just slips out and back in

gives them a thorough testing, and if the dont survive then they were due for replacement soon anyways
