Enough beemers already
« on: 10 December 2010, 00:09:07 »

Should (well 99%) will be taking delivery of a 2005 '54' BMW 535d M Sport tomorrow, DMS remapped to 348 BHP and 687nm of torque  :o

M3 has to go, I adore the cars too pieces but I can't afford the 47 miles for £25 worth of Super Unleaded  :( Only when given some of course, but when can't you give an M3 some, 525i has to go, even though I've grown quite an attachment to it  :-[

So many 520d M sports about no one would know the massive power reserves! or like you say de badge. The twin tailpipes with a 520d badge may blow your cover thinking about it  ;D

Reading up on these maps apparently they give it better in gear acceleration than an M5 :o 0-60 is 5.5 seconds and 0-100 is 13 seconds.

Seriously quick motor even in standard guise. You have to wonder how the hell they got so much power from a diesel. To anyone that hasn't driven one or been in one, it is a bit of a shock when the power kicks you in the back. Auto has launch control so not much will stay with you off the lights.
I know people have a dig about Beemers but I would not waste my fuel having a run with my (now on peak) 3.2 elite against our 330d M Sport Coupe. It pains me to say it but the Beemer would eat it. The acceleration is truly awesome.
Driven sensibly the 535d will give more than decent economy for such a large car and when driven not so sensible it brings a massive smile to your face. :y
You really have to drive one to know what I mean. ;)
Having driven a 335d I don't think you will miss the M3 when you get the 535d, especially as you are getting a higher output model.
Good on you mate. Have fun. :y :y

stock 0-60 values

330d              6.8 (2007-)
335d              5.2
535d sport DMS  5.5

e90 m3          4.4-4.5

neglecting fuel factors , rare cars are close to m3..

My point exactly. Just one measly second between a diesel weighing about 1700kg against a high performance sports car. Shows how far diesels have come in the last few years. :y

I think that 330d that I outdragged up the long hill from M1 to Towcester may diasgree that his 33d manual was quicker than an Omega 3.0 auto  ::)

I will concede, he put up a valiant fight though ;D

The modern beemer diesels are overblown to get the power, so you need to keep them on-song to get the best out of them.  BMW are not alone in this respect.
