Snow tyre prices
« on: 17 December 2010, 17:10:56 »

Was at my local tyre place today to get a couple of tyres.  Known the fella for years and was chatting away, as you do.

He was saying that the major suppliers have ramped the wholesale price of winter tyres up through the roof and whats more, are restricting availability in order to justify the increased cost.  Quite available in to home counties of England though as thats where the public are really screaming out for them, by all accounts.

A tyre that cost him less than £40 to buy in March is now over £90.  He simply cannot get tyres for regular customers appears to be no more than blatant profiteering and not just the rise in cost of raw materials....   :-?.

I got mine back in October (smug) from Online Performance Tyres nr Nottingham
see http://stores.ebay.co.uk/onlineperformancetyres.

A very noticeable difference in grip and confidence from last year.

WIM were saying they were seeing supplies dry up, and prices therefore going through the roof.

Yeah I second that; I bought heating oil earlier this year for about 40p a litre, but now hearing reports of people being charged 70p a litre. Absolutely scandalous.  >:( >:(

Also fitted some winter tyres to the car, sourced them myself through "Mytyres.com". Can't believe the difference they have made to the tramlining problem, it's now like a different car, must be down to the softer componds etc  :) ;D

imo, I would go buy second hand rims and buy new snow tires for size 16 .. they are also circular and go well on snow  ::) ;D ::)
