That bloody Elite
« on: 30 December 2010, 18:26:26 »

It still isn't endearing itself to me ;D

I gave it a charge most of the day, then blasted it down the tip (seeing as the bloody council are as much use as a used johnny).  During that 20 mile round trip, it clocked over 500 miles since last oil change (that MDTM did a few months ago), so as it was due another. No problem there, all went to plan. Oil was black as the ace of spades though - thats full Vauxhall service history for you! So I guess I'll have to do another in 500 miles.

As the passenger side was jacked up, I though I'd sort out the bodged (just cut) brake wear sensor. Could I get the rather wheel off? Could I tosh! Must have taken an hour and a half to get the little bastard off  >:(

S'pose I should take the others off now. Well, tomorrow, anyway.

Presumably it had 'corroded' itself to the disc / hub?

Had that before so I cleaned up the mating surfaces and smeared some copper ease on.

Yup, now copperslipped up.  I'm gonna wait until chrisgixer comes around, then make him take it off, just to see his face ;D

But I get a distinct feeling he is gorging his face on a ruby murray as we speak, greedy git ;D

As My Haynes often says ..... ''judicious use'' of a soft faced hammer can help, but I've released siezed on wheels by slackening the bolts off, then move the car by a couple of feet then slam on the brakes. It will make a hell of a bang, but the wheel will come loose. Obviously don't drive down the street to do this but as said just a couple of feet on your/Tunnie's drive!  :y  :y  :y

Neither of those tricks worked in this case :( - the driving with loose bolts has never failed me before.

...now sat farting on the sofa ;D

My wheels where similar, even when loose there was so much gooped up copperslip on the hub it still wouldn't come off completey, and when it did finally come free it wacked me on the knee.

Good clean up with a wire brush and yes a light smear of Andyb's personally supplied tin of copper slip ready to get the other knee next time.  ;)

Reminds me of someone I know who changed a set of front discs, but didn't degrease them first ;D

Indeed - but you're always in Stinksville now...  ...and once I get inside the M25, the normally Mr Calm becomes Mr Angry, and my bogies turn black...

When first purchased meg and found bolts could'nt be undone regadless of effort :(, took it round to ATS, and used their free check service.

Needless to say part of it was also to check brakes and therefore would have to remove wheels. hint hint ;) ;)

If ATS not near you KWIK FIT do free brake test  or someone else do something similar ;)
