Depends on gearbox, and if thats urban or a cruise

Were talking Auto here, on 250miles of motorway at a very steady 70mph, coasting down hills etc. Im sure theres something wrong with the car. I just squeezed 400 miles out of a tank.

I have to be honest im very dissapointed in the fuel consumption. If its going to remain like this il consider moving the car on. Drving my 24v senator in the same way i would have got 35mpg out of it, the monza wouldnt be far behind.

Is it possible that the lamdas are tired?

That does seem low - autos obviously take a hit around town, but on a motorway cruise, I would be expecting an easy mid-30s from a 2.5/2.6 and low 30s from a 3.0/3.2

I guess start off with a decent service, and see what happens then...

Well, the gearbox fluid does need doing, infact the new filter/gaskets turned up this morning. Ive also noticed a slight blow on the exhast. That wont be helping the Lambda. I also checked the tyre pressures and they were all 24PSI. Pretty pissed off about that as it was at vauxhall last week having the tracking done, they should have check the tyre pressures before doing anything else!

Another thing is that the climate has been set to Auto at 21 degrees, does that mean that the air-con has been constantly on? Iv switched it to ECO.

Im sure its more than likely a combination of these things.
Il keep you informed.

My average for the week before Christmas dropped to 23mpg, where it is normally around the 28mpg mark - putting it down to the use of snow mode, being stuck once or twice, and warming the car up :)

My 24v Senator was also as economicaL if not more so, than both my current and previous 2.5 Omegas. Although the current one runs on Gas so the MPG figures on the MID wouldnt be very accurate.

I'd say that overall, my 24v Senator was more economical than my 3.0 Omega. Around town mine will do about 20/21mpg whereas the Senator would be 22/23mpg, not a huge difference but it was better.
If you noticed aprox 3000 in the Senator was aprox 90mph, but the same revs in my Omega is nearer 80mph.
I do have to say though, that I got 35pmg going south a few months ago and I don't remember ever getting quite that from the Senator.  :-?

Mine has improved a lot since the weather has got better, I guess it was just down to driving in shitty conditions.

Just think how much extra carbon must have been released into the atmosphere because of the cold weather,

Cars running ineffiecnently, heating on full blast in houses ect.. it must be that global warming whats doing it ;D

According to the trip computer mine has averaged 19.7mpg (I reckon it's actually less)  for the last few thousand miles-thats why i need to get the wife a more economical run around.

Well i took the car to sheffield again yesterday, this time with the right tyre pressures and the air-con off. Was there any improvement? No. Managed 29mpg going there in very favourable conditions, half the journey was spent at 50mph. On the way home i gave it some beans and managed 27mph, so from now on il drive it like i stole it!

As a car, compared to my old carlton estate it just isnt as good. It's marginally better in terms of handling but thats about it. Still thats progress for you.

Different overall gearing from a Senator (presume the same for a Carlton 24v) and heavier.
Have you check cam belt timing? If you've never worked on it yourself don't be surprised if it's a tooth or 2 out, the lads that do a lot of work on these cars seem to find various cars with timing issues.  :y

Too many garages think they can do the cambelt without the locking/timing kit....

I have just done a 914 mile round trip from cornwall to folkestone and back with a little driving around while there and used just 18 gallons of fuel :o,sadly it was'nt in the mig,I was feeling skint so took my old 406 hdi instead,it averaged 52mpg which is pretty good at a steady 80 or so on the motorways .God knows how much the mig would have used as I have never seen better than 28mpg on the display,oh and the 406 has done 183000 miles :o :y :y

My Senator is more economical than the Omega and cheaper  to insure.
