7 Seaters...
« on: 16 January 2011, 15:25:54 »

Ok we need to get ourselves a 7 seater...limited budget of probably no more than £2k although we have 6 months or so to save up if need be...can anyone recommend the best one to get bearing in mind I'm already aware the older Zafira's are an unreliable piece of sh*t (which is a shame as the fold down seats are very handy!) :y

We quite like the look of the 2001 on Galaxy even though its made by  :-X

Cheers, Chris.

Sintra should be cheap enough if you can get one and want to go for the older end of the market.

The 3.0 DRINKS fuel though, so beware of that.

Very roomy inside though.

My Bro has had a Galaxy from new - now got 240k on it, still on he original clutch! They get through tyres much more quickly than the Omega.

Have had a Sintra and a Zafira in the past...the Sintra was a little van like and very difficult to work on due to engine access issues but generally ok...the Zafira while car like was rubbish! numerous issues over a fairly short amount of time...never again

Ford Galaxy every time - I sold my wife's one just before xmas as we were'nt using it since buying a 4x4 but have missed it so much I am looking at another one - will have to be Diesel though (reputed 45mpg!).  Ghia is best spec and look out for crushed sills at the jacking points and cam belt history (every 40,000).

Galaxy I'd say is the best bet, but it's probably the safest bet in that price range too, Zafira isn't great on safety, galaxy isn't brilliant but a bit better, Multipla terrible, Voyager terrible, sintra terrible. And safety I'd think would be a big factor.

Agreed :y you could get a conversion to convert to 7 seats, would have been year 2000 when we looked in to it, so not sure they would still be around.... :)

after seeing video years ago on telly of an American TRRL type staged accident involving a car hitting the back of a US 'station wagon' with two dummy kids in rear facing occasional seats (like MB estate etc) I'd not want to carry kids in that type of seat. The other car hit the back of the moving estate, the tail gate opened as the dummy kids fell forwards ie towards the now open door, just as the other car was lurching towards the car again squashing them against the rear bumper. The dummies though were NOT wearing seat belts.  :-? :-?

In Finland there were some companies that built folding seats to almost any estate in the past, let's say 10 years ago, before the "space wagons" filled the market. Mostly used in taxi.
I've seen a few Omegas with folding seat in the "trunk" and they were quite well made... But as you can imagine, it'll be only for kids... No leg room etc.
