Radar - Speed Detectors
« on: 17 January 2011, 19:24:09 »

Any recomendations for a new one in the car.

Had/have a Cobra, cant remember model number at the moment, but it detected SY99 directy above me in the 1st week I owned it and the paramedicas on an emergency.  Both area's have never been triggered since.

The unit has no GPS so doesnt know where the static locations are that it cant dectect.  Also it's american so wont pick up on all frequencies.

I also have a Tomtom XL which has most of the locations on.

Just in the mood for a new one.

TIA.   :y

I have a road angel and it tends to only pick up the static cameras, even with the monthly subscription and updates.

I tend to use it more as a visual speedo at the windscreen...very usefull for that but not much else.

Hi Mr Skrunts,

well i can really help you on this, as over the last 8 years I have researched these and used loads...

Ok you will come across units such as Road Angel, Valentine 1 , Bel , Snooper  etc which are all good...

After owing almost every detector going I can honestly say , the best I have used and still used is a unit called the Origin B2.

Although origin (UK company) have stopped making this unit , you can go onto fleabay and still get the odd one that pops up NEW for around the £70 mark.

The first 6 months subscription on a new unit is free, followed by £50 a year, but Origin do deals sometimes for £90 for 3 years. Origins back up is always first class.

These units detect Radar and laser, GPS based , you can add a radar detector unit so should you not have the latest updates it would still detect GATSOs, the laser works very well... but with most laser detectors if you have been hit...and it goes off  you may be getting that ticket..

I wouldn't use anything else, no false alerts , very small unit that can be hidden away, plus if you need it fitted I would help you.

PM me if you need any more help.

Regards

I should also add the Origin B2 detects SPECS, Digital etc... the only thing it cant detect is a police car doing a manual time and distance check ie PROVIDA etc..

I use a TALEX unit which tells you where all speed cams (including average speed cams) are & also positions of mobile camera sights, its also got speech warnings & a built in speedo, although talex charge for updates you can go to NOVUS & get them for free, they are cheap enough on the bay. :y
