Pattern parts against Vx
« on: 17 January 2011, 20:12:01 »

Hi
What are your feelings about using pattern or Vx parts. Am servicing the mig using parts from Vx dealer using my trade card, (replaced front discs).
Been browsing on ebay and they have disc sets at less than half the price I paid at the Vx dealer.  Thing is, I'm a bit peeved at the difference. Is there any advantage in using Vx parts or would it be better buying the parts at ebay prices??? :-[

Some items, such as discs, pads & cam cover gaskets, I would only get on the TC. Many parts are OK getting pattern but not all. At the end of the day you gets what you pays for! :y

Some pattern parts are only suitable for going staight in the bin when you've bought them. eBay has a steering idler arms that even when new are worse than the worn part they are replacing. Pattern discs can also be hit & miss & for the £100-ish from Vauxhall I think are good value for money.  :y

Many have fitted exhausts from eternalcar with satisfactory results :y

Must admit, if I hadn't been in such a mess with my back when the rear box fell off last month I would have fitted a full Eternal system for £20 more than I had to pay for a back box :'( :'(

I paid £119 for the full system from Eternal Car. If you take off the postal costs it could only have cost £80 - £90  8-)

I wouldnt call 100 pounds for the discs a good value.
Fo less money you can find discs from well known brands which are probably far better than genuine ones.
Exhausts also are shi... . If you need a replacement get yourself a known stainless steel one  from a reputable company.
Unfortunately sensors usually work if they are genuine.

 .......

It is if you fit cheap discs & they then need replacing in 6 months, especially if you're paying someone else to do the job.  ;)

I bought pattern from Brakes International fro the front of my Senator. One disc ran out within 3/4000 miles, it's replacement dis exaactly the same. OE discs (pre ABS Trade Club card) although quite expensive would have saved me the cost of the other 3 discs. I never had a problem with OE fitted.  ;)

Can't say about Mintex, but I've used Brembo on other cars, never had a single issue with them.

Don't think you will get Brembo cheaper than genuine on a trade card ;)

Don't know about Brembo price for the mig, but when I had an old A6 (first model) Brembo disc were third of the price of the genuine ones.
Front Brembo discs were around 40 pounds (even slightly under)
