my omega is now redundant !
« on: 19 January 2011, 18:45:19 »

due to the crappy fuel prices and 300-400 miles a week the omega is now parked up and will stay there until sat. iam now comuting in a 1.7 diesel corsa of my dads as the fuel is just crippling me, i can easily do the same mileage for half the money but the corsa is no good for me size wise when using for the family, so....... on the horizon is a corsa combo van from my father in law whos decided to sell and go back to a car :y good news for me as i can buy the van (cheap) and use the van permantly for comuting and any odd jobs and use the omega on weekends for the family so hopefully the omega will be with me a little longer just yet, :)

Why not lpg the 2.2 bestie? If you diy the kit will cost approx £500 & you will save nearly £40 a week doing 400 miles a week, so wont take long to pay for itself, & then the savings are not to be sneezed at! Even though lpg is rising at a slightly faster rate than petrol at the moment, once the weather improves it will stabilise again, so still very worth while converting imho  :y

Philrich you're local to me, did you pay to do the LPG conversion by an installer nearby?  Or did you do it yourself?

Whilst I'm not looking to convert right now, it is something I'm thinking about.

Mine's been sat for some time now, I'm starting to think it's time it went to someone else. A shame but when you're out of work a nice comfy motor is suddenly something you can't really afford anymore.

Situation sounds similar to ours. We bought a DTi estate to run instead of a thirsty (and expensive to tax) 4wd and I liked it's low running cost so I bought a DTi Elite to use for my daily work commute and now use the 3.2 mainly on the weekends.

The very basic maths are that the DTi will go twice as far as the 3.2 per tankful.

I just filled up today, 300miles for £35, on LPG.

I installed myself, photos here, somewhere, not too horrible.

While I was fixing the valves (water pump broke ), I used a hire car Modus diesel and my wife's 03 Corsa. The drive was not a patch on the Mig, bouncing around all over the place, a little tin box.

If you would like to see my install, PM me.

Sorry this is a late answer Shimmy, been off a day or so! :-[
I did it myself with the help of the guides in the maintenance section & some very kind help on here & over the telephone (very late at night too! :D) from Lazydocker, Kevin Wood, Welung & Tunnie! :y
