I thought that scrap prices had gone up at the moment....Something to do with oz and the floods so im told.

Thats right - its because brisbane produce the vast majority of coke that is used in the blast furnaces for steel production and since their production facilities are going to be out of action for a few months it has caused nervousness in the market

Tell that to my local scrap metal stealer he has dropped his price to £115/t  tight git

about 170 quid a ton up here in sunny hull 

with the alloys, your better off cutting the tyre off and knocking out the steel ferral's before you weigh them in. you get a better price that way
