Omega and fuel costs

There was a thread on here the other day about just doing 50 miles a week - and for past 12 months since I got the Phaeton this has more or less what my Omega has been doing. We have family event down in Cornwall so thought I would take the old girl for a blast and the Omega as well. Managed 28mpg only (over the 260 miles) at slightly less than the speed I go at in Phaeton.

I foolishly did not fill up at home before leaving and stopped at Exeter Services - 139.5p per litre!! What are these guys on - no wonder the 24 fuelling positions were empty.

Really enjoyed driving it down though - ran well - but fuelling the Omega for these distances is not a joke.

Phaeton is doing 38 mpg - but it is a diesel.

Petrol prices are a joke I do around 100 miles a day.
I go from northampton to watford & get around 500 miles out of a tank which now costs £90  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
The arabs drive around in gold plated super cars the petrol companies make millions a minute & then the wonderful 70 odd % tax  >:(
should cost £10 to fill the mig up

funny you mention about the thread the other day as at the start of this week i filled up from empty and decided to see how many miles i do.... ive done around 70 miles and used half a tank. these have been town miles (omega37, youre a northampton lad....abington to kingsthorpe to moulton park..not long at all but heavy traffic)
by the way you said 90 quid to fill up.... my 2.5cd costs 71 quid from empty. petrol from morrisons :)

ps cocoa, whats the phaeton like? i bet its awsome bearing in mind its what goes into a bentley cont gt  :y :y :y :y :y

Omega tank size is 75 litres = roughly 16.5 gallons at say £1.30 a litre = £5.91 a gallon. To fill tank = £97.50.

So my 260 mile trip to Cornwall cost £55 one way at 28 mpg.

Not sure what Morrison's are doing!!

Phaeton is superb - touch wood - not a squeak - no back to dealer etc and when I checked for 1st service they said is not due til 2 years as I am on long service plan - no short journeys. Fingers crossed.

Phaeton tank size is 90 litres

Costs me £71 to fill, sainsburys 1.25.9p at the mo. Ave get 400 miles, but recently driving up n down m-way at steady 60-65 2500 revs gettin 460 miles. Boring as hell tho lol

During a trip last week through one of the darker, less desireable counties in the Kingdom I saw unleaded fuel at 1.99/litre at a small 'service' station - service with a grim smile no doubt.

I do not think your tank was actually empty Webby, or Morrisons fuel is much, much cheaper than down here! :D :D ;)

Empty to full £50:32 :) (68 litres) and on a run that'll get me 300 miles, around town about 200 miles ...

spending £70-£90 per week now on petrol for the omega.

Not cheap cars to run when you do lots of stop start town driving.

I've been doing it for a while now... Mind you, LPG here is 77.9 minimum at the moment and I've got a bigger tank ::) ::)

That said... The European propane price has been falling for a week or 2 so LPG pump prices should start to follow suit soon ::) ::)

obviously wasn't empty then!  ;) My Astra was screaming at me to fill up the other day, the gauge was below the red & the low light was flashing. It got 47.something in, and as the tank holds 55 litre it means that there was still well over a gallon left.
When you next fill it from 'empty'note how much you put in. If you use the range or the gauge then I'd be surprised if you managed much more than 70 litres.  ;)

the problem with all these Omega + Fuel threads is not everyone takes into accounts other costs.

Before I LPG'd mine, yes fuel was expensive, but it was not cheaper to run a Vectra/BMW Diesel.

Omega owes me nothing, they can be picked up for next to nothing, they cost sod all to maintain if you DIY.

BMW 530d would be nice, but looking 10k easy for one of those or any big nice derv burner say the Audi A8, the monthly cost in paying for the fiance on those, easily rights off any fuel savings.
