Omega & Insignia seatbelt compatibility
« on: 06 February 2011, 16:47:41 »

Could any advise if these would work?.

I'm in the process of putting some univeral aftermarket sports seats in my project Omega 2001.  I will be using a universal mounting kit.

Now because the original seats had the seatbelt anchor point as part of the seat itself, I'm looking for some form of anchoring point to bolt onto the seat subframe or floor. (as per classic cars had Capris, Chevettes, etc) and I've found this from an Insignia rear belt anchor point.

Anyone know if the two will be compatible.

I know that I the airbag light will come on, etc, but I have a fix for that.

Or if anyone knows of another Non pretentioner anchor point will do the job thanks.

I know some will say use the buckle from the rear of the Omega, but they have woven belts and that'll mean keep fishing for the buckle on the floor every time you want to belt up, hence why I'm after something like the above.

Cheers  :y

Cheers Andy.  Though not 100% sure, think when I've been looking that was a first idea.  Think the set-up is same as the Omega's?.

Anyone else able to confirm this?.

It bolts to the seat if that's what you mean.

I know it's difficult to explain via written form

Is it similar to the one above in that it has a stiff flexible neck so that it just sits ready to be used, if you understand what I mean?

The receiver for the buckle is fitted via a solid arm, the same as the Omega's, but without the pretensioner.  :y
Trouble is, when did you last see a Senator/Carlton on the road let alone in a breakers yard/  :-/

Yeah, know what you mean, hence the trouble I've been having thinking of an alternative.

Were they similar to this below

ok - a couple of potential problems here.....

but just to get straight, you're looking at using the Omega seat belt outer anchorage (i.e. the reel in the B/C post), plus the top relay (i.e. the bracket at the top of the B/C post) and trying to find an alternative stalk mounting that fits to the floow and not the seat (correct me if I'm wrong)

Well, first off, your floor bracket will need to be STRONG, in an accident, the belt has to withstand approxiimately 3000kg - and that's only if you're doing 30mph. So whatever you come up with, you'd better be confident that you could at the very least lift the whole car up using it.

Senator/Carlton use a seat-mounted bracket.

Signum belts won't be compatible.

rear belts won't be compatible.

The reason that they're seat-mounted is so the geometry of the belt matches your shape as you put the seat in different positions This is important as it'll make the difference between living and dying in a "standard" 30mph crash.

My recommendation would be either,

go for a 3, or 4-point harness (installed properly), or

mount your "new" seat to the subframe you already have.

Safety is very much an important part of my doing this conversion.  But I take you points in that it must be done properly and not the meccano path!.

My only other way I can do the conversion is if I use the seat manufactures 'tailered' seat subframes, I could then use GM factory pretentions from original seats.  Problem is there, they only seam to make the seat subframes for an Omega preface, but not for the Facelift.
Yes the seats would fit, but then the pretentions wouldn't.

Mind you the preface tailered subframes aren't cheap either  :o .

Last option is sell the seats and universal subframes to someone who wan't to go motor racing and use the money to fund some facelift mv6 cloth seats, as I know there'll bolt stright in, but finding some cloth seat versions is getting to be a rare find also.

I know I could do the 4-point belt system, but it's a lot of faffing to do each time you get in the car!  ::)
