miggy dilemma
« on: 29 January 2011, 18:28:15 »

its getting hard to justify owning the miggy!(family keep reminding me) and with a few repairs needed(wishbones, disks) an tax due next month , plus i only do 50 miles a week now(fun happy v6 miles).  my mind is swinging every day. everyone is saying i should get rid so ive come to the home of the miggy for support! :-/

Of course we're all going to say keep it :y :y

But... You need to decide if you can justify keeping it for 50 miles/week :-/ :-/ Are you going to have to replace it? that's a big decider in the battle of the senses

Something to factor in to the equation.

At least you know your car, history, servicing.

If you are involved in a prang you have a lot of car around you compared with the inevitably smaller replacement.

There does come a time when you have to let go. Only you will know when that is!

50 miles a week of happy V6 miles is surely not worth assessing in purely economic terms?

Keep the thing! The value in smiles per mile far exceeds what you might save at the pumps!

i think thats whats holding me back from getting rid, i could end up with a dog! plus theres not many people buying 3l cars these days so it prob only worth scrap value! i still need a car so it comes down to fun vs cost!  :-/ :-/ :-/

keep it. At 50 miles a week it's only costing you about £12 in petrol. If you changed it for something more economical it would take you years to recover the loss. I've only had mine a year and pondered a couple of times about the cost. Go for a drive, clear your head and keep it. You know it makes sence..

replacing with a small expensive car wont justify the expense for long time with that weekly mileage.. :-/

all cars will need maintenance... tyres, break pads, discs etc.

and 50 miles a week is not much at all.

keep the omega.

I do a similar mileage in mine and also have family say 'its too thirsty' or 'its too big.

Had to spend £200 on it in december on brake pipes for mot amd i still love it.

Fuel not an issue due to the low use and after being in the little fiat i have just bought for mrs 282 getting back in the mig was fantastic!

There's many a week when my Omega does zero miles, I do try to use it once a week if I can for work just to stop it from feeling unwanted. But when I use it for towing, it might do a few hundred miles in the week or more when we go to France, and that justifies its existance. It tows the caravan with no effort at all, apart from stopping for fuel (80+ gallons to France & back last summer  :-?) it's not worth selling cos it's worth bugger all.
Keep it!  :y  :y  :y

....And you'll end up with a smaller, less comfortable, less safe car.
