Get an S-Type, the X-Type is just an expensive Mondeo, and serves no purpose other than, it allows you to be able to say, "I've got a Jag" instead of "I've got a Mondeo".  :y

Not really that expensive anymore though

£1695 for a 51 plate with sub 100k.....?

Sounds like a bargain to me.

I've had 2 X-Types, both 2.5 V6 Autos and both brand new. It's the only time I've ever replaced one car with another of the same type.

I loved them. Very comfortable and certainly powerful enough with something like 195bhp. Handled superbly with 4wd. I didn't have many problems, only an unbalanced drive shaft (which took 4 attempts to fix - they replaced each shaft one at a time) sorted out under warranty (and I got to drive an S-type as a courtesy car each time).

The "tarted up Mondeo" is a bit of a myth really. The cars share very little, and the only thing the engines shared was the block itself. The heads were Jaguar specific, as were all the internals (although whether the same is true of the diesels I don't know).

Jim.

2 jobs ago I inherited a passat 4motion v6 2.8. One sunny afternoon with hardly anything else around me and a bloke in a Mondaguar had a bit of a set-to on the A27 near Chichester. No worries on the straights, but come to a roundabout and he left me wallowing, so I agree they seem to handle well in the right spec.
