More of a classic here me thinks...

Hardly a budget car, no T&T only an 8 valve & no mention of mileage???
Much as i love Carltons  I'd take the Astra as a cheap runabout. 8-)

Back up big boy i said not a classic yet...read the post! You can do a clutch for £50 in an hour on these, coz GM were good enough to fit inspection plates for us to take off, even i can manage.
   Still take it to any classic/VX show. When did you last see another? 8-)

it'll never be a classic, despite achieving old age -  had a 1.4L "H" reg - terrible car in whats known as lovely "corpse blue" - you know that flat blue colour VX insisted on ruining cars with in the 90's 

wallowy, uncomfortable, underpowered, poorly put together - maybe i had one of the friday afternoon ones

no, I think most afternoons were much the same

Likewise I had a 1.4 LX on an L plate - wallowy wasn't the word!  Having said that I clocked up nearly 80k miles in it & it was uber-reliable.  I thought it a very comfortable and economical motorway commute-mobile tho

i don't think you can go wrong with an old astra,cheap to repair and run
